In the first round of the DFB Pokal, both Hamburger SV and 1. FC Köln managed to secure expected victories. HSV played a low-intensity match against SC Verl on Monday evening, winning comfortably with a 3-0 scoreline against the third division side. Albert Gronbaek netted in the 41st and 46th minutes, while Louis Lemke scored in the 50th minute.
1. FC Köln faced a tougher contest against Würzburger Kickers. After falling behind following a goal by David Abrangao in the 18th minute, the team found their way back with a brace from Isak Johannesson, who scored in the 62nd and 77th minutes, leading the Rams to a 2-1 win.
The situation was even more challenging for VfL Wolfsburg. They were forced into extra time against VSG Altglienicke, who play in the Regionalliga Nordost, after the match reached a 2-2 draw.
