Iran Temporarily Lifts Strait of Hormuz Blockade Amid Lebanon Truce

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, announced on Friday that Iran intends to temporarily lift its blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. According to a post on the X platform, he stated that, in line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, passage for all commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz will be fully unrestricted for the remaining duration of the truce, following the coordinated route previously announced by the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Port and Shipping Organization. The announcement follows President Donald Trump’s declaration on Thursday of a ten-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, which began last night into Friday. The Strait of Hormuz is currently also blocked, according to the US military. Earlier in April, Araghchi had set an end to Israeli attacks on Lebanon as a prerequisite for a ceasefire with the United States. At that time, the Iranian Foreign Minister told the world on X, referencing a tweet from Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif where the ceasefire between Iran and the US was announced on April 8, that the terms for a truce between Iran and the US were “clear and unequivocal: The US must decide-either a ceasefire or the continuation of war through Israel. Both are not possible”. He concluded by writing, “The world is witnessing the massacres in Lebanon. Now the US is at the point, and the world is watching to see if they will fulfill their commitments”.
