Iran Walks Out of Talks After Trump Threatens New Military Strikes

According to Iranian state media, the Iranian delegation has ended its negotiations with the United States in Switzerland. Several Iranian news agencies reported that the talks were abruptly terminated due to threats issued by US President Donald Trump. Trump had warned that Tehran would face new military attacks if Iran failed to gain control over its allies in Lebanon.

The discussions, which were taking place with mediation from Pakistan and Qatar, reportedly lasted only about 80 minutes before the introduction of these threats made the situation highly difficult. Iranian negotiators, including Chief Negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghtschi, subsequently departed the hotel where the talks were held.

Prior to the negotiations, Trump had warned on his Truth Social platform that Iran must immediately halt the activities of its “highly paid proxies” in Lebanon to avert further aggression. In response to these threats, the Iranian delegation stated that it is currently reviewing an “appropriate reaction,” viewing the warnings as a violation of the established framework agreement between the two countries.
