The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, which was originally due to expire on Sunday, has reportedly been extended by several days. US President Donald Trump announced the extension of the truce for an additional three weeks. Meanwhile, the Lebanese Ministry of Health reported three deaths following an Israeli attack.
Following a meeting with representatives from both nations, Trump announced a subsequent meeting to be held at the White House involving Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. He expressed his belief that there is a “very good chance” of reaching a peace agreement between the two countries this year. Attendees at this Washington meeting included, among others, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the Israeli Ambassador to the USA, Yechiel Leiter, and the Lebanese Ambassador, Nada Hamadeh Moawad.
Despite the ongoing truce, further attacks have evidently occurred. The Hezbollah group reportedly fired rockets at northern Israel, stating that this was in response to Israel violating the ceasefire. The Israeli military confirmed that multiple projectiles were intercepted. Since the escalation reignited, more than 2,450 people have been killed in Lebanon, and over one million residents have been forced to flee their homes.
