Konate Joins Real Madrid After Liverpool Exit in Major Spanish Squad Shakeup

Real Madrid has finalized a four-year contract with Ibrahima Konaté, securing the French defender until June 30, 2030. The Spanish giants announced the agreement, confirming that Konaté is leaving FC Liverpool on a free transfer after failed contract negotiations. Reports suggest that the separation was due to differing viewpoints on his market value and wage demands.

Konaté joined Liverpool in 2021 from RB Leipzig for an estimated £35 million, having initially signed a five-year deal. During his time at Anfield, he featured in 183 official matches and won titles including the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the League Cup on two occasions. The defender had previously expressed disappointment over not being able to say goodbye to the Liverpool fans, unaware that his final match in the club’s kit had been against Brentford on May 24.

This move for Konaté comes as Real Madrid has appointed José Mourinho for a second term as head coach. In addition to the new signing, the club will also welcome Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella this summer. The 31-year-old Portuguese player, Silva, will move for free from Manchester City, while Cucurella transfers from Chelsea to Real Madrid for an estimated £52 million.
