Oliver Blatt, the head of the major association of statutory health insurance funds, believes that a stabilization of contributions is achievable if the proposed Statutory Health Insurance Contribution Stabilization Reform is implemented as planned. Speaking to the news portal “T-Online” Blatt stated that the legislation proposed by Frau Warken holds the potential to stabilize contributions. He added that if the draft is implemented verbatim, contributions could even decrease on average across all funds-a prospect that is difficult to imagine right now.
However, he cautioned that the extent of any possible decrease could not be stated definitively, nor would it be uniform across every single health fund. According to Blatt, many health funds are required by law to rebuild reserves that they had to use up during previous years.
Blatt repeated his warning against the reforms being distorted by interest groups. His advice was that everyone involved should pause, gather their thoughts, and collaboratively determine what is realistically necessary to stabilize the finances of the statutory health insurance system. He emphasized that inaction is not a viable option. If current concerns, which various associations presented at the Ministry earlier in the week, were followed, the only consequence would be a financial collapse. In such a scenario, the contribution payers would bear the brunt of the burden.
