According to Digital Minister Karsten Wildberger (CDU), the German economy has the potential for rapid growth powered by the use of Artificial Intelligence. Speaking to the weekly magazine “Die Zeit,” Wildberger cited the Chinese economy as an example, noting that China has grown by more than five percent annually over the last ten years, suggesting that Germany can achieve similar growth rates if it successfully implements AI.
Wildberger stressed that Germany cannot afford to be overly cautious in adopting AI. He warned that in the fiercely global competitive environment, those companies that operate more efficiently and introduce new products faster will rapidly gain an edge. Therefore, he argued that legal regulations should not unnecessarily impede businesses.
The Minister urged both corporations and politicians to set aside their skepticism regarding AI. “I warn against wanting to resolve everything through a long negotiation process and viewing AI negatively from the start,” he stated. “We simply do not have that much time; the competition is not waiting for us.”
