Kubicki Dismisses ‘Firewall’ Fears, Advocates FDP Revival with Independent Confidence

FDP leadership candidate Wolfgang Kubicki stated on a Funke Media Group podcast that he views joint voting procedures with the AfD (Alternative for Germany) as unproblematic. He clarified his stance by stating that while he would not agree to any specific motion proposed by the AfD, he would not make his own proposals contingent on the AfD’s approval. He questioned the wisdom of such a move, cautioning that it would effectively hand over the AfD’s entire political agenda to him. However, Kubicki explicitly ruled out the possibility of forming a coalition with the AfD.

When asked whether he planned to build a new protest party, Kubicki stated that “every party is also a protest party”. Nevertheless, he said he did not feel the need to establish a new political entity. Instead, he argued that the FDP itself is not defunct; rather, it needs a revitalization. He stressed that this refreshing process must come with an air of self-confidence, rather than being perpetually defined by its opposition to other groups.
