Wolfgang Kubicki, the new chairman of the FDP, has expressed outrage concerning the participation of Alternative for Germany (AfD) members of the Bundestag in the economic forum in St. Petersburg. Speaking to Spiegel, Kubicki asserted that the AfD is staging its foreign policy in a manner reminiscent of amateur theatre. He argued that the true motivation behind such appearances is primarily focused on internal political image-building. According to the FDP leader, while this visit might be presented as a display of pragmatic political reality, it provides neither recognizable economic nor peace policy benefits. “It may benefit anyone, but certainly not German interests” Kubicki stated. Furthermore, the FDP chief sarcastically suggested that the AfD deputies could just be having a tea party in the tundra, claiming this would likely have the same effect on world peace.
