Lauterbach Urges Moscow to Cooperate with WHO Amid Lung Plague Concerns in Russia

Referring to the suspected outbreak of lung pest in Russia, former Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) called for the country to fully cooperate with the World Health Organization (WHO). Speaking to the “Rheinische Post”, Lauterbach stressed that “Russia must openly cooperate with international health institutions, especially the WHO,” adding that this is a requirement for Russia. The health policy expert warned that maintaining transparency and taking swift action are the most vital measures for avoiding epidemics-a critical lesson learned from the COVID-19 pandemic. However, he simultaneously clarified that there is currently no heightened risk for the population across Europe.
