Left and SPD Level Off in Polls; AfD Retains First Place Amid Political Shift

In the latest polls conducted by Forsa, Die Linke has experienced a slight rise in voter favorability, now achieving parity with the SPD, with both parties registering 12 percent support in the weekly survey for RTL and ntv. Meanwhile, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) lost one percentage point but maintains a significant lead with 26 percent, remaining comfortably ahead of the Union at 22 percent. The figures for the other parties remained unchanged from the previous week: the Greens are at 15 percent, the FDP at 4 percent, and the BSW at 3 percent.

Regarding competence, the Union has managed to gain slightly and has regained the lead over the AfD for the first time since March. Currently, 14 percent of all voters trust the Union the most to handle Germany’s problems, while 12 percent attribute this role to the AfD. The SPD, Greens, and Die Linke each command 6 percent in the trust rating, although the Greens saw a slight dip in this measure, while both the SPD and Die Linke recorded small gains. Correspondingly, general distrust in Germany remains high, with 53 percent of citizens stating they do not trust any party to best solve the country’s issues.

Concerning the work of Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz of the CDU, only a small portion of the population remains satisfied. Currently, 15 percent of German citizens rate his work positively, while a substantial 83 percent express dissatisfaction with his performance.
