Linken Leader Announces Clear Red Line Against Antisemitism Amid Israel-Palestine Debate

Ines Schwerdtner, the chairwoman of Die Linke party, has announced that ahead of the upcoming party congress in Potsdam, the party will draw a sharp line against antisemitism. Speaking during the Politico Berlin Playbook Podcast, Schwerdtner stated that Die Linke will clearly establish a red line against all forms of anti-Semitism and racism at the conference. This decision is considered a crucial directive for the party, which had recently been dealing with discussions concerning anti-Israel and antisemitic stances in some of its local groups, but she expressed confidence in significant internal support for this course of action.

However, Schwerdtner also issued a warning, urging members not to equate criticism of the Israeli government with antisemitism. She stressed the absolute necessity of distinguishing between critiquing the policies of the Israeli right-wing government and its settlement procedures, and the genuine fear of attacks among Jewish people, including those residing in Germany.
