Despite explosions near his hotel in Syrian capital Damascus, French President Emmanuel Macron is continuing his visit program in Syria. The office of the French President confirmed that Macron is safe. At the time of the explosions on Tuesday morning, Macron was said to have just met with his Syrian counterpart, Ahmed al-Scharaa. The detonations in the heart of the capital were reportedly caused by explosive devices, and social media images showed smoke clouds at the scene. The number of possible victims and the circumstances remain unclear. This incident occurred only a few days after a bomb was detonated in a café in Damascus, which killed at least ten people. Macron is the first EU head of state to visit Syria since the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
