SPD Urges Presidential Decision Ahead of Merz Speech, Champions Female Leader

In the run-up to Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s (CDU) address at the CSU party conference in Munich, the SPD is increasing pressure for a decision regarding the next President of the Federal Republic. Dirk Wiese, the parliamentary director for the SPD Bundestag faction, told the “Rheinische Post” (Saturday edition) that “the time is definitely ripe. For me, it is clear that the highest office in the state should be taken by a woman.”

The SPD politician further stated that the ideal candidate should be a personality of “integrity and charisma, who builds bridges between different social and political groups.” He added that Ilse Aigner was one such candidate. Meanwhile, CSU leader Markus Söder has reiterated his support for the Bavarian State Parliament President, Ilse Aigner, on Friday. All eyes are now focused on Merz’s upcoming speech.
