Friedrich Merz, the CDU leader, has apparently acknowledged a share of responsibility for the poor performance of the Union party in recent state elections within the Union fraction. According to reports from multiple participants in a parliamentary group meeting on Tuesday, Merz stated: “I have my part in these election results.”
At the same time, the CDU party leader defended the reform course pursued by the federal government. He reportedly stated that this direction “must continue” and that “the direction is correct,” asserting that there should be no further burdens placed on the younger generation. He emphasized that the proposals made by the pension commission must now be implemented.
Furthermore, participants in the meeting indicated that the leader warned the SPD. Merz is reported to have told them that they must “eliminate every doubt” regarding cooperation with the Left Party in Berlin.
