According to a survey conducted by the opinion research institute Forsa for the “Trendbarometer,” Chancellor Friedrich Merz appears unable to emerge from a slump. The findings show that only 13 percent of the German public are satisfied with his work, while a substantial 85 percent are dissatisfied.
Criticism is also dominant among internal supporters. Among those affiliated with the CDU and CSU, 45 percent are satisfied with Merz’s performance, yet 54 percent remain unhappy.
Regarding future trust, citizens believe Merz will not escape his crisis in the coming months. Only 11 percent believe the Chancellor will gain significant public confidence again-a figure unchanged since May-whereas 85 percent expect no such recovery. Even within the CDU and CSU support base, only about a third anticipate a significant increase in Merz’s credibility, with 58 percent of this group unconvinced of a major confidence gain.
