Despite the recent rejection by the Yad Vashem memorial site regarding the establishment of an education center in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), the state government has pledged to maintain intensive cooperation with the organization. The Head of the State Chancellery, Minister Nathanael Liminski of the CDU, told the “Rheinische Post” stating, “As a state government, we fully support Yad Vashem’s major step of establishing an education center in Germany”.
Liminski emphasized that confronting the Holocaust remains a permanent responsibility of the state and a crucial topic in socio-historical education, reiterating a previously stated commitment. Although the center will not be built in North Rhine-Westphalia, the minister affirmed that the state will support Yad Vashem as a reliable partner in the planned nationwide educational outreach.
NRW plans to contribute its exceptional educational and memorial landscapes, alongside its broad political and societal commitment against antisemitism and for a culture of remembrance. Minister Liminski offered his thanks to the involved municipalities and all partners who had strongly supported North Rhine-Westphalia’s application.
It has been previously announced that Munich will now serve as the main location for the new Yad Vashem education center, with an additional branch office planned for Leipzig.
