Pension Reform: Experts Anticipate Swift Political Implementation of Balanced Proposals

Jörg Rocholl, a member of the Pension Commission and President of the Berliner Wirtschaftshochschule ESMT, is optimistic about the swift political implementation of the reform proposals. Speaking to RTL and ntv, Rocholl stated that he is confident that these changes will happen very quickly following recent statements made by Mr. Merz and Ms. Bas.

While he expects a prompt review of the proposals, some specific points will require more time, such as the planned linkage of retirement age to life expectancy. Rocholl anticipates a quick process on this matter so that the public knows soon when implementation can properly begin. He noted that while some measures will only take effect starting in 2031, others could be introduced sooner. Nevertheless, it is crucial that those affected by the reforms have suitable planning security.

Rocholl described the proposals put forward by the Commission as a balanced overall package. He added that the Commission has spent months working intensely to consider the best arguments and include various perspectives. “I believe a good package has emerged from this, one that can be convincing in its entirety,” he asserted. This comes after the Federal Government had previously declared its intention to implement all of the Commission’s recommendations.
