Following the release of the latest PISA results, Heidi Reichinnek, head of the Green parliamentary group, has accused the federal government of failing regarding educational justice. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post”, Reichinnek stated that the strong dependence of a child’s academic success on their social background is deeply frustrating and regrettably unsurprising. She asserted that both the current administration and its predecessors have failed to adequately identify and change the core causes of educational inequality. She warned that a state clinging to an education system reminiscent of the Imperial era would neither prepare its children for the future nor overcome the devastating social divisions currently in place.
Drawing on this background, Reichinnek sharply criticized planned cuts to the education sector. She argued that such cuts only cement societal division and actively strip children of their educational opportunities. According to Reichinnek, if genuine progress is desired for students in Germany, substantial investment must be made in schools, daycare centers, and personnel, alongside improving staff-to-child ratios. She concluded by refuting the idea that teacher and educator shortages, dilapidated school infrastructure, and insufficient time for delivering curriculum are natural phenomena; instead, she insists they are the direct result of flawed political prioritization and decision-making.
