According to a survey conducted by the polling institute Forsa, two-thirds of Germans support providing targeted state financial assistance to low-income individuals who must commute long distances for work. This finding was reported by the broadcasters RTL and ntv, who commissioned the study. Specifically, 64 percent of those surveyed favor this form of support. Support rates were particularly high among followers of the SPD (78 percent) and The Left party (86 percent).
Regarding the impact of high fuel prices, nearly half of the respondents (48 percent) believe that elevated gas prices are causing people to drive slightly less in Germany. However, an almost equal proportion (50 percent) anticipate no significant influence from high fuel prices on overall traffic volume. Furthermore, 39 percent of all participants stated that it is beneficial for people to drive less due to high fuel costs, citing environmental protection. This view was not shared by over half the respondents (56 percent).
The survey collected data from a total of 1,001 people on July 13th and 14th.
