According to the current “Sunday Trend” poll conducted by the Insa Institute, the AfD now leads the Union coalition by five percentage points. In the poll released Saturday, the AfD registered 28 percent, while the CDU and CSU both dropped by one point to 23 percent. This represents the lowest figure for the Union since more than four years.
The SPD also saw a percentage decrease, falling to 13 percent. As a result, the Union and the SPD combined only account for 36 percent of the vote. The Greens also stood at 13 percent. The Linke maintained its value at 11 percent, while the BSW and FDP each held steady at 3 percent.
According to the Insa figures, the two coalition partners have lost approximately one-fifth of their respective voters since the federal election held in February 2025. Hermann Binkert, head of the institute and the organization behind the survey, told “Bild am Sonntag” “If this trend solidifies, Germany faces a massive shift in the political balance of power”. The polling institute surveyed 1,200 people between May 4 and May 8, 2026.
