RB Leipzig secured a 3-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach in the first matchday of the 1. Bundesliga.
The breakthrough came in the 26th minute when Ridle Baku scored the opener for the Leipzig side. After linking up with Rocco Reitz and then Tidiam Gomis, Baku found himself with ample space behind the Gladbach defense. He slotted the ball into the lower left corner from a distance of 13 meters.
Leipzig doubled their lead in the 49th minute. Following a quick transition, Gomis laid a flat pass in the center for his teammate Nusa. Nusa picked up the ball on the left half of the penalty area, beat his marker with a skill move, and curled the ball high into the far corner from approximately 14 meters out with his right inside of the foot.
The third goal was netted by Reitz in the 66th minute against his former club. After an organizational error in the center of the pitch, Christopher Nkunku, who had recently come on as a substitute, drove forward at pace and threaded a pass to his charging teammate, Reitz. Reitz successfully beat Gladbach goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas with a shot from 13 meters.
As a result of the win, Leipzig currently holds second place in the table. Conversely, Gladbach is temporarily positioned in 17th place following their defeat.
