Russia Launches Massive Missile and Drone Attack Targeting Kyiv; Casualties Reported

Overnight, Russia conducted an extensive ballistic missile attack on Kyiv. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that more than 40 missiles of various types were fired, most directed at the capital, alongside 120 attack drones. The immediate impact in Kyiv resulted in one fatality and 16 injuries.

According to Zelenskyy, emergency response efforts continued on Sunday morning at three locations, involving almost 600 responders. Services were also deployed in the Odesa region.

Broader figures from Ukraine indicate that this week alone, Russia utilized approximately 1,450 attack drones, over 1,640 guided aerial bombs, and 99 missiles of different types against Ukraine. Attacks have been reported in numerous regions, including Sumy, Chernihiv, Vinnytsia, Dnipro, Donetsk, Shytomyr, Kirovohrad, Mykolayiv, Poltava, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Tscherkasy. Injuries were reported in the Odesa and Zaporizhzhia regions, while damage was sustained in Sumy and Chernihiv.

Zelenskyy emphasized that defense against ballistic missiles remains the top priority. He stressed the daily requirement for interceptor systems, expressing gratitude to those upholding agreements and ensuring the delivery of defensive capabilities, noting that these measures literally save lives during every Russian assault. He added that maintaining pressure on Russia is crucial to prevent new attacks and the circumvention of sanctions.
