Russia Linked to Surge in Severe Attacks Targeting German Infrastructure

The digital threat facing Germany has increased significantly, according to data cited by the newspaper “Bild” from internal records of the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI). The report indicates that the number of serious hacker attacks has risen by 25 percent over the past year. Furthermore, the BMI’s internal situation assessment highlights a total of 36,000 severe DDoS attacks targeting Germany, equating to an average of 100 attacks daily.

German security authorities have identified Russia as the main driving force behind this wave of cyberattacks. The report claims that many of these operations are either directly controlled or at least tolerated from Moscow, with the explicit goal of destabilizing Germany.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, the attacks are not only more frequent but also considerably more aggressive. The primary targets have shifted beyond simple data theft, now including attempts at sabotaging critical infrastructure.
