Former Chancellor Olaf Scholz has yet to decide which artist will paint his portrait for the Chancellery’s “Ahnengalerie” (Ancestral Gallery). According to the Funke Media Group, which cited the SPD politician’s former Chancellery office, a decision regarding Scholz’s portrait has not yet been made.
Unlike his predecessor Angela Merkel, Scholz has not commissioned an artist for the painting. Merkel’s portrait, for instance, was unveiled at the Bode Museum in Berlin more than four and a half years after she left office.
The new portrait is scheduled to be presented at the museum initially, and will subsequently be displayed in the Chancellery after the autumn months. The Chancellery maintains a collection of portraits of all former Chancellors of the Federal Republic, dating back to Konrad Adenauer.
