Felix Schreiner, a member of the CDU, Parliamentary Managing Director of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, and chairman of the CDU regional group in Baden-Württemberg, welcomed the nomination of Thorsten Frei to lead the CDU/CSU parliamentary group.
Speaking to the “Politico” podcast, “Berlin Playbook,” Schreiner commented that Frei would “seamlessly follow up on Jens Spahn’s successful work.” According to Schreiner, the focus now must shift to the swift implementation of the reforms planned by the coalition. He emphasized the urgency, stating, “There is no time to hesitate; decisions need to be made.”
Considering the narrow majority in the Bundestag, Schreiner believes the future group leader faces a demanding task. He stressed the necessity of broad support, noting, “In every vote, every single member of parliament will be needed.” This makes collective decision-making crucial. Schreiner expressed confidence that Frei would maintain the party’s cohesion and accelerate the announced reforms.
Finally, Schreiner highlighted the significance of the early decision by the CDU parliamentary group. He described the fact that CDU and CSU intended to elect a new group leader as early as next week as a positive development.
