Christian Streich, the former coach of SC Freiburg, has been announced as a television expert for ZDF for the upcoming World Cup in North America. The public broadcasting station revealed the news on Tuesday, marking his entry into the broadcasting world on his birthday.
Streich is scheduled to debut during the tournament’s opening match on June 11th, when he will turn 61. His planned appearances include June 17th, for the live broadcast of England versus Croatia, and June 20th, during the second group stage game featuring the German national team against Ivory Coast.
Speaking about his role, Streich stated, “My goal is to explain the tactical ideas of the individual teams in a way that is understandable and traceable for the viewers”. Yorck Polus, the ZDF Sport Chief, described Streich as a “special type of coach, known for his clear words”.
Streich, who is currently 60 years old, coached SC Freiburg from 2012 until 2024, making him the longest-serving Bundesliga head coach.
