Janine Wissler, a member of the Bundestag and former leader of Die Linke, has thrown her support behind a coalition involving her party, the Greens, and the SPD to govern Berlin. Wissler pointed to a poll, cited in the press network “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland”, which revealed that 41 percent of Berliners favor Elif Eralp as the governing mayor.
The Linke politician further stated that her party currently represents the strongest force, noting that a majority exists outside the CDU. She called for this situation to be utilized to negotiate conscientiously and implement the desires of the voters. For the public, she emphasized that the central issue is ensuring that housing remains, or becomes again, affordable.
Bodo Ramelow, Vice President of the Bundestag (Linke), and his faction colleague Dietmar Bartsch (Linke) have also explicitly argued in favor of a Red-Green-Red alliance. This stance contrasts with previous criticism from 120 other Die Linke politicians, who had challenged the party’s agreement with the SPD and the Greens regarding its approach to countering antisemitism, arguing that the agreement constituted a form of surrender, particularly to the SPD.
