CSU Warns Against “Moral and Political Disaster” of Berlin Coalition with Left Parties

CSU Secretary General Martin Huber has voiced concerns about the continuation of preliminary talks between the Left Party, the Greens, and the SPD in Berlin, following criticism already launched by CDU leader Friedrich Merz. Huber stated that forming a coalition with the Berlin Left would constitute a “moral and political catastrophe for our country.” He told the “Rheinische Post” (Tuesday edition), “It is completely clear: this antisemitically driven clan-coalition cannot happen in Berlin.”

Huber further asserted that if so-called “clan associates” continue to remain within the parliamentary group despite established agreements, “that only shows: the Left is already brazenly defying its exploratory partners.” He concluded by suggesting that if the Left is now outraged over calls to clearly condemn antisemitism, claiming instead that they are victims of a “media hate campaign,” this amounts to a “moral declaration of bankruptcy.”

The SPD, Greens, and Left Party began holding these preliminary negotiations concerning a potential coalition in Berlin last Thursday.
