SPD Slams Allies, Demands National Stockpile List to Avert Supply Shortages

The SPD is calling on Chancellor Friedrich Merz of the CDU to create a comprehensive inventory listing the availability of essential raw materials and resources. Dirk Wiese, the SPD parliamentary group’s administrative director, stated that this measure is intended to preempt potential shortages across Germany. Wiese argued that the escalating situation due to the Iran conflict necessitates immediate and urgent crisis preparedness within the Chancellery, suggesting this be handled either by the National Security Council or through convening an Energy Security Cabinet. He criticized the Ministry of Economics for acting too slowly over the past weeks, asserting that the ministry must now clearly specify where and how bottlenecks could arise in the near future. He emphasized that the issue goes far beyond the situation observed at gas stations. Wiese further detailed that the crisis is already having effects on various economic sectors, including the chemical industry, agriculture, the supply of aluminum, overall value chains, and consequently, food prices. The SPD politician concluded by demanding that all these areas must be taken into account to ensure readiness and proactively manage the developing situation.
