SPD Women Back Nina Warken to Boost Female Representation in Coalition Talks

The SPD Women’s Network is calling for greater female representation within the Coalition Committee and is consequently supporting Health Minister Nina Warken (CDU) for the position of CDU/CSU parliamentary group leader, replacing Jens Spahn.

Speaking to the magazine “Focus,” Carmen Wegge, chair of the SPD Women’s Network and a Member of the Bundestag, stated, “As SPD women, we believe that the Coalition Committee definitely needs at least one more woman. We welcome it if Nina Warken is willing to take on that role.”

“Focus” had previously inquired specifically about the Health Minister’s candidacy. Warken is being discussed within the CDU as a potential future faction leader. However, she could also take on the role of Chief of the Chancellor’s Office should Thorsten Frei move to lead the faction. In either of these demanding roles, she would sit at the table in Coalition Committee meetings.
