FDP European politician Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann has labeled Jens Spahn, the leader of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, a “hypocrite” and “no longer tolerable” due to his decision to have a child via surrogacy. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post,” Strack-Zimmermann stated that while opinions on surrogacy can vary, she criticized Spahn’s previous stance. She pointed out that he had consistently and vehemently rejected the practice while serving as Health Minister, yet later sought to arrange it through the US due to his status and wealth. She concluded that his actions constitute hypocrisy and that he is no longer acceptable as a politician and the chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary faction, implicitly calling for his resignation.
