Further details have emerged concerning the suspected perpetrator involved in the fatal crash near the Berlin CSD.
Security authorities have identified Abdul B., a 21-year-old, as a known Islamist threat. According to reports from WDR, NDR, and the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, he was assessed as radicalized and prone to violence. His profile indicated that he had attempted to travel to Syria to join the “Islamic State.” He was reportedly arrested in late 2025 at Berlin’s BER airport when returning from Lebanon. He was placed under investigation and detention until May 2026 on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act.
The police continue to search for the actual crash perpetrator. The individual drove a small transport truck into Berlin’s Tiergarten around 10 PM on Saturday during CSD celebrations. After colliding with a tree, the driver fled the scene. It remains unclear whether he had an accomplice; officials have stated that “one or several persons” exited the vehicle. Furthermore, several individuals reported being wounded by stabbing implements.
