Tax Dilemma: Business Boss Backs Higher Top Rates If Labor Cost Relief is Guaranteed

Bonita Grupp, who inherited the Trigema brand, indicated that she is open to an increase in the top tax rate. Speaking to the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” (Friday edition), the businesswoman, who jointly runs the textile company-located in Burladingen on the Swabian Alb-with her brother, stated that raising the top tax rate moderately would be acceptable, provided that compensating measures are introduced elsewhere.

However, she emphasized that rising labor ancillary costs are a greater concern. According to Grupp, if these costs continue to escalate, they will eventually become unbearable.

She also expressed strong criticism regarding the recently implemented €1,000 relief bonus available to employers. Grüpp found it difficult that “politics is setting wrong expectations and spending other people’s money”. Furthermore, she noted that it is not yet clear whether Trigema will pay this tax-free bonus to its employees, adding that they still need to thoroughly examine the details.
