Trump Halted Planned Strike on Iran Amid High-Stakes Talks with Gulf Allies

President Donald Trump announced Monday that a planned military strike targeting Iran has been temporarily halted. He stated that the delay was requested by the Emir of Qatar, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, and the President of the United Arab Emirates. Trump reported that the leaders asked him to postpone the assault because “serious negotiations” are currently underway. According to the US President, these talks are expected to result in an agreement that would be “very acceptable” not only to the United States but also to all countries in the Middle East and beyond. A critical central element of this potential accord is that Iran must agree not to possess nuclear weapons. Citing his “respect” for these world leaders, Trump explained that he instructed the US Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, General Daniel Caine, and the broader US military to forgo the scheduled attack. Nevertheless, amid the discussions, he simultaneously ordered them to remain prepared for a “comprehensive attack” against Iran should an “acceptable agreement” ultimately fail to materialize.
