Two Detainees Nabbed in Bavaria on Suspicion of Foreign Sabotage Operations

The Bavarian State Criminal Police Office announced that two men have been detained on suspicion of engaging in espionage activity for sabotage purposes. These investigations are being overseen by the Munich Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The suspects-a 43-year-old Ukrainian man and a 45-year-old Latvian man-were stopped during a traffic control on Federal Autobahn 6 near Neuendettelsau on April 12, 2026. During the inspection, officers discovered and subsequently seized numerous suspicious items, including fake identification documents, cameras, a drone, GPS trackers, radios, mobile phones, and SIM cards.

Authorities suspect that the men were operating on behalf of a foreign organization or entity. Because the two individuals do not have permanent residency in Germany, the Public Prosecutor’s Office subsequently issued arrest warrants for both. They are currently being held in pre-trial detention. Due to the nature of the ongoing investigation, no further details have been released at this time.
