US stock markets saw gains on Thursday. By the close in New York, the Dow Jones industrial average had reached 51,778 points, marking a positive increase of 0.6 percent from the previous trading day. A bit earlier, the broader S&P 500 was up 1.1 percent, standing at approximately 7,638 points, while the technology-focused Nasdaq 100 registered a 1.7 percent rise at around 29,447 points.
These positive movements followed the Federal Reserve’s recent rate hike, which the markets interpreted as a sign that the Fed is taking inflation seriously, thereby reducing some of the prior uncertainty. Furthermore, the decline in oil prices contributed to lower inflation expectations. Brent crude oil, specifically, fell by 1.7 percent, dropping 176 cents to $104.10 per barrel as of Thursday evening.
In other financial markets, the Euro strengthened slightly on Thursday evening, trading at $1.1478. Conversely, the dollar was available for 0.8712 Euros. Gold prices also saw a substantial boost, with fine ounces fetching $4,345 in the evening, representing a 1.9 percent jump, which translates to €121.69 per gram.
