U.S. military forces launched further attacks targeting Iran late on Wednesday, following orders from Commander-in-Chief Donald Trump. The U.S. Central Command announced via platform X that these strikes were intended to weaken Iran’s ability to threaten the free passage of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The military asserted that the United States holds Iran responsible for recent unjustified attacks against commercial vessels and civilian crews operating freely in this crucial international waterway.
Iranian media reports detailed several explosions, noting power outages in the region surrounding Chabahar.
The developments come as President Donald Trump questioned the validity of the existing ceasefire earlier in the day. During a NATO summit in Ankara, he remarked on whether the ceasefire had ended, stating, “I think it’s over,” and declaring that he wants “nothing more to do with them.”
The United States and Iran had signed a statement of intent in mid-June, which established the ceasefire between the two nations and set a 60-day window for negotiations aimed at reaching a final, permanent peace agreement. However, recent months have seen increasing violations of that initial agreement.
