Verdi has announced that the collective bargaining negotiations for the approximately 9,000 employees at Postbank have failed. Union representatives reported on Tuesday that despite intensive discussions, the employer side failed to demonstrate “sufficient goodwill” during the third negotiation round and did not present any new offer.
The union informed members that they will vote on potentially indefinite strikes between June 17 and July 3, 2026. For this strike initiative to be adopted, a minimum of 75% of the participating Verdi members must agree. Meanwhile, the negotiating parties have agreed to hold a fourth round of talks in Berlin on June 30, 2026.
Verdi negotiating lead, Jan Duscheck, stated that the employer could still avert an escalation of the industrial conflict by presenting an improved offer. He added that the upcoming negotiation date on June 30 still offers a chance to reach a solution at the table before the final referendum. However, he emphasized that Deutsche Bank must submit an offer commensurate with the employees’ performance and the group’s economic strength.
The union is demanding an eight percent pay rise, or at least a monthly increase of €300, as well as €200 more for training allowances. Additionally, Verdi requires binding regulations to safeguard employment and locations, as well as measures for qualification and protection during the adoption of artificial intelligence and other transformative processes.
