According to reports cited by the “Handelsblatt” from corporate circles, Volkswagen has contractually fixed over 37,000 departures as part of its ongoing internal restructuring and cost-saving program. A VW spokesperson confirmed these figures when asked. Specifically, approximately 27,000 employees are expected to leave the corporation voluntarily by the end of this year.
The program, which encompasses VW, Audi, Porsche, and the software division Cariad, currently projects a total workforce reduction of 50,000 positions by 2030. This figure means that nearly three-quarters of the previously agreed-upon job cuts are now structurally secured.
Separately, the “Manager Magazin” had previously reported that group CEO Oliver Blume intends to expand this long-term job reduction target to as many as 100,000 jobs. Volkswagen declined to comment in detail on that report but did confirm that the company is actively working on a future plan to establish the new structure of the corporation.
