Jens Spahn, a leading figure within the CDU parliamentary group, has firmly rejected any prospect of cooperation with the AfD, dismissing recent speculation of a potential rapprochement as unfounded.
In an interview with “Focus” magazine, Spahn emphasized his long-standing opposition to the AfD’s rhetoric, stating he had already confronted its positions during previous political debates. He recalled personal experiences of facing hostile protests during the Covid-19 pandemic, asserting the AfD would likely target him first should the party gain significant political influence.
Responding to suggestions, reportedly originating from within the SPD, that he might be open to a coalition with the AfD, Spahn expressed bewilderment, describing the criticism as baseless rumor and self-perpetuating speculation. He indicated he does not understand the source of these claims.
