German Hotels See Slight Drop in Guests After Record Year

Germany’s hotel sector has experienced a slight dip in performance following a record-breaking previous year, according to data released Thursday by the Federal Statistical Office. July saw 56.7 million overnight stays by both domestic and international guests, representing a 1.2 percent decrease compared to July 2024.

The number of overnight stays by German guests declined by 1.1 percent, reaching 46.2 million in July 2025, down from 46.6 million the previous year. Simultaneously, overnight stays by international visitors also saw a decrease, falling 1.3 percent to 10.5 million.

Looking at the period from January to July 2025, German accommodation providers registered a total of 279.9 million overnight stays. This figure is marginally below the peak of 280.4 million recorded during the same period in 2024.
