The Palestinian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Omar Awadallah, has welcomed the growing recognition of Palestine by additional nations, describing it as a significant signal directed towards Israel. In an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, he stated that Israel cannot continue its current trajectory.
Awadallah expressed hope that this momentum would lead to further actions, including the implementation of a comprehensive boycott, extensive sanctions and the severing of all ties with Israeli settlements, with sanctions specifically targeting settlers. He advocated for a global travel ban on settlers, asserting that the measures should intensify as long as Israel does not modify its policies.
Responding to inquiries, Awadallah refrained from definitively excluding the potential political involvement of Hamas in a future Palestinian government. While acknowledging the uncertainty surrounding Hamas’s future, he drew a parallel, suggesting that those who accept figures like Smotrich, Ben-Gvir and Netanyahu as members of the Israeli government should not, in turn, object to the potential inclusion of Hamas in a Palestinian administration.
