A devastating traffic collision on the B2 federal highway near Pleinfeld, in the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district, has resulted in the tragic loss of three lives and sparked questions regarding road safety and potential infrastructural failings. The incident, occurring on Sunday afternoon around 4:00 PM, involved a Skoda and a Mercedes colliding head-on, according to a statement released by the Mittelfranken police.
Initial investigations suggest a chain of events triggered the fatal crash. A driver of a Dacia vehicle reportedly swerved into the left lane to avoid a stationary tow truck, an occurrence now drawing scrutiny regarding the legitimacy and visibility of the vehicle’s placement. Subsequently, the Skoda, traveling in the same direction, inexplicably veered across the center line, impacting the oncoming Mercedes.
The Skoda was carrying five occupants, while the Mercedes was driven by a single individual.
