Germany’s Education Minister Announces New Initiative to Support Boys’ Well‑Being and Combat Rising Suicide and Extremism Rates

Federal Education Minister Karin Prien (CDU) said boys need better support. “We must not promote girls and ignore boys altogether” she told the newspaper “Wochentag”.

The minister explained that boys often feel disadvantaged and overlooked, not only in upbringing but also in school. She pointed out that in other countries this neglect can have serious consequences.

“Boys have significantly higher suicide rates and are more susceptible to extremism-not just right‑wing extremism but also Islamist movements. That’s truly worrying for me” Prien, who has three sons, added. “Gender‑equity policy isn’t only a women’s issue; it’s also a men’s issue”. She stressed the importance of preventing a situation where men feel they are losing.
