German Foreign Minister Wadephul Brings High Expectations to Munich Security Conference.

Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU) entered the Munich Security Conference on Friday with high expectations. He told reporters on Thursday that the conference would tackle the challenges that no single country can solve alone. Wadephul highlighted the future of a sovereign Ukraine, Europe’s security, trans‑Atlantic relations, the situation in the Middle East and the need to strengthen global partnerships – all underpinned by responsibility, strength, reliability and stability. He confirmed that Germany would remain strongly engaged in all of these efforts.

The minister underscored the importance of military strength and active diplomacy as core security resources. “In times of growing uncertainty we must focus on our core interests and values as our basic compass” he said. “During periods of global upheaval and the resurgence of power politics, political reliability and a stable, rules‑based international order are our greatest capital”.

Wadephul reiterated that German foreign and security policy is built on a European foundation that brings more than just prosperity. He called for a unified European effort in the face of Russian pressure and stressed the significance of trans‑Atlantic ties, adding, “We understand the necessity of our trans‑Atlantic positioning and have great confidence in it. We will do everything to keep that bond strong”.
