The German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs says that the country’s gas supply remains secure, regardless of increasing tensions between the United States and Iran. When asked how a possible Iranian blockade of the Strait of Hormuz would affect LNG shipments and the overall supply situation, a ministry spokesperson told a news agency that Germany has many alternatives besides LNG-such as the Norwegian gas pipeline. The spokesperson emphasized that the supply is “certainly secured”. She also noted that it is not possible to state in detail whether LNG deliveries actually use the Strait of Hormuz, and that in the past this was not always the case. Ultimately, the responsibility for delivering gas lies with the individual traders.
