Faced with further rises in fuel and gasoline prices linked to the Iran conflict, federal states are increasing pressure on Economy Minister Katharina Reiche (CDU).
Saarland’s Minister-President Anke Rehlinger (SPD) told the “Rheinische Post” (Friday edition) that the federal ministry is being urged to employ its competition‑and‑antitrust tools against these “crisis gains”. She added that the current surge in petrol prices is literally enriching large corporations, because gas stations are still selling gasoline that was once purchased at much lower costs.
Rehlinger stressed that, for long‑term stability, the situation around Iran must quickly calm down and be clarified. She noted that, at present, there is no clear strategic approach-particularly from the U.S. president-to resolve the issue.
