In the investigations following the attack on Berlin’s electricity supply, authorities appear to have received several indications of concrete evidence.
“The reward of one million euros for identifying the perpetrators of the attack on Berlin’s energy infrastructure has led to several hundred tips from the public” said a spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) in a statement to the midweek edition of “Bild”. “All tips are being investigated. Some leads are now being followed more intensively. The investigations are ongoing. The BKA and the domestic intelligence service are working together on the case”.
Specialists from the BKA and the domestic intelligence agency are comparing the new statements with crime‑scene profiles from previous years, the paper reports. In addition to the 2024 attack on the Tesla plant in Grünheide, the focus is on the 2021 S‑Bahn cable sabotage in Pankow and the 2018 substation attacks in Charlottenburg. While the so‑called “Vulkangruppe” has left almost no forensic traces for years, the current witness statements appear to provide, for the first time, concrete investigative leads, according to sources close to the investigation.
