Verena Hubertz, the federal minister for housing and spatial planning, admitted that German politics shares responsibility for the country’s growing dissatisfaction. Speaking to RTL and ntv on Thursday, she said: “We all bear responsibility in federal politics when people feel they can no longer afford a decent life”. Hubertz highlighted housing as a key factor, adding that “it’s obviously a part of the problem”. She stopped short of linking the issue directly to recent electoral defeats in places like Rhineland‑Palatinate, noting, “I’m not ready to go that far”. However, she stressed that the SPD is ready to act. “People are worried across the country, and housing is undeniably one of the central questions of our time” she told the broadcasters. “We must ensure it gets better again”.
